Galen Chen

Galen first discovered partner dance in 2013 while attending college, and realized the potential for a lifelong hobby. He learned salsa, then ballroom, and finally West Coast Swing over the next few years. The amount of freedom, spontaneity, creativity, and partnering west coast swing allowed for was incredible!

Pretty quickly he was dancing seven days a week, enjoying the process of learning west coast swing, and starting to teach beginner lessons at Boston University. Galen traveled to places such as Singapore, Canada, the UK, and all over the United States to compete, learn, and dance West Coast Swing. At the same time, his teaching roles expanded to the MIT and Northeastern dance teams.

In 2022, Galen moved to New York City and started Swingiversity as a place to learn West Coast Swing in a fun, stress free environment with high quality instruction! He believes that learning dance should be an easy experience filled with enjoyment, and that anyone can enjoy West Coast Swing’s casual nature, wide range of modern music, and welcoming community.
