Rita Gekhman-Algarra
Book LessonRita Gekhman-Algarra, born in Minsk, Belarus, was raised by her mother and grandmother after her father’s early passing. Her mother, a pioneering computer programmer, nurtured Rita’s love for music and movement. At 7, Rita began studying rhythmic gymnastics and piano, graduating from music school at 13. She then transitioned to ballroom dancing, quickly excelling and becoming a leading competitor in Belarus.
In 1990, pregnant with her son, Rita immigrated to Israel. Soon after his birth, she resumed dancing and began teaching high school math and dance in Ashdod. In 1991, with partner Gena Kigher, she became Israel’s first Latin American Amateur Champion, representing Israel internationally.
Turning professional in 1995, Rita partnered with Garry Gekhman, competing in numerous World and European Championships and training with renowned instructors in Europe.
